There are so many great things out there that will help you stay fit and be healthy. Every month, if I see something that’s new, noteworthy and that I think you should know about, you will hear it here first! The pick for the month of May is the National Center for Safe Routes to School and their programs such as the one that’s happening today!
The Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program will partner with schools all across the state and hold the Massachusetts Walk and Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Children all across the commonwealth will walk or bike to school on that day in a statewide effort to promote a healthy lifestyle. Walking and biking to school each day to and from school can contribute towards the development of a lifelong habit of physical activity.
The National Center for Safe Routes to School institutes programs to make routes safe for children to walk and bike to school. The programs purpose is to educate parents, students, and teachers on safety and suggest engineering and infrastructure changes on routes to and from school. Walking and biking can reduce the traffic and air pollution in the area around schools while encouraging students to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
